Telling Our Stories, Reframing the Meta-Narrative

SankofaHow does liberation relate to the African woman and how does the African woman relate to the church? – Mercy Amba Oduyoye, Daughters of Anowa

Join the Kinky Curly Theological Collective for three upcoming convenings where we will explore the complexity of our identities as black women who are spiritually minded. Looking through the lens of our spiritual and faith experiences we will explore:

  • How our faith has been a source of liberation and resilience
  • How our experiences connected to religious institutions have both benefited and hurt our relationship with God and others
  • What it means to be a black and African woman in the Church and other religious institutions
  • How we practice emotional and spiritual wellness as black and African women
  • The importance of centering our experience and expertise in the practice of spirituality and theology
  • The importance of elevating our cultural identity in the practice of spirituality and theology
  • The value of building deeper relationships between and amongst black and African women

Each session will include time to get connected with other black and African women, space to get spiritually grounded, and the opportunity to reflect and write about our stories. Our writings will then be compiled into a book and a performance tentatively scheduled for August 2018.

All sessions will take place from 11 am – 2 p.m. at the Rondo Community Outreach Library on University and Dale in St. Paul. A light meal will be provided.
